Robert Colby Damon was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia.  After seeing a performance of Stoner Winslett's production of The Nutcracker  with Richmond Ballet at the age of 7, Colby asked his mother to enroll in ballet classes. He spent the next 8 years receiving strong foundation in classical dance from the School of Richmond Ballet, with instruction from Malcom Burn, Arnott Mader, Jasmine Grace, Maria Calegari, Judy Jacob, Jerome Weiss, Jerry Schwender, and Susan Israel Massey.
